I have just completed the riding on day 1 of the BC Bike Race. It's
pretty awesome so far but it's a long way to go yet.
Day 0 started well in N. Vancouver with a very smooth registration
process. I had completed my waivers before I arrived so I skipped a
big part of the line. I then had a pretty quick registration as my
racer number 76 had very few people in the line. Others had longer
waits. This first set of lines introduced something that is very
common at the BCBR - lines. I have taken a pretty laid back approach
to this which has made the waiting all good. There are lines for
pretty much everything but they all move fairly well so just wait,
chat with your fellow racer and enjoy.
I should note that the rain in Van was not pleasant. We thankfully got
a lift from Stefan and Liz, to get our boxes bikes and bags to the
venue!
The presentation was a good mix of info and entertainment and moved
along well to get us to the BC Ferry to the island and Cumberland.
Fast forward through a ferry ride and a bus ride - uneventful. There
were more lines to collect our tags for tent, which was already setup
for us. Sweet!
Dinner was a tasty lasagna and we ate our fill. met up with some
Yukoners and an early bedtime. Nervous energy was in abundance.
Race day was cool and partially cloudy. We had a self seeded start
separated into waves. The really fast guys took off and I moved into
the start position.
The first 8k were roadie time. 37km/h and dusty. The single track
entrance backed up as the pack hadnt really spread out the riders
